Day 14: Go for a run or hike on the Miccosukee Greenway

14 Jan

I get sentimental about the Miccosukee Canopy Road Greenway because it is one of the first things I learned to appreciate about Tallahassee. It is, quite simply, one of the most beautiful spots in the city to run, hike or picnic. It never ceases to give me those “Aren’t I lucky to be alive?” moments. This roughly 7-mile trail parallels Miccosukee Road and is a popular spot for hikers, runners, and the occasional off-road bicyclist. One of the most pleasurable things about the Miccosukee Greenway is it switches from forested trails to wide-open pastures with picnic tables. Those pastures are also beloved by dog owners whose pets are happy to have miles of grass through which to romp. Amazingly, the greenway is never that crowded; most days I have the trail all to myself.

Address: There are many access points off of Miccosukee Road on to the greenway. You can try the Fleischman, Edenfield or Thornton Road entrances. All offer parking and most have either bathrooms or water fountains. One note of caution: it is somewhat remote, so bring a phone or an exercise partner with you.

The Greenway is my friends and I’s favorite place to go either to play frisbee, explore, go on hikes with our dogs or go for a nice moment of reflection at night, laying on a blanket under the stars, I love the Greenway.
