Day 21: Attend a Tallahassee Community Chorus concert

21 Jan

Tallahassee Community Chorus is the premiere choral group in the city with dozens of talented singers, many of whom are students in Florida State University’s music department. I attended the Jan. 20 “Unity” concert, which celebrated various musical styles and genres. The concert featured internationally known guest artists, including Carla Connors, a soprano who has performed at Carnegie Hall and sang in dozens of operas. World-renowned Pam Laws, a Tallahassee singer, seduced listeners with her warm alto. The Leon Anderson Jazz Trio was mind-blowing and had the entire audience bobbing heads and tapping feet. Guitarist and singer Del Suggs charmed the 200 or so attendees with his vocal rendition of “Over the Rainbow” while playing a ukulele. Meanwhile, the Tallahassee Community Chorus joined in on many songs. Choirs are generally under-appreciated. Don’t miss out on seeing this one in action.
