Day 104: Play tennis at a city park

14 Apr

Tallahassee has quite a few options when it comes to public tennis courts. There are three city parks that offer tennis courts and all are nicely kept and relatively inexpensive and easy to reserve. Tom Brown Park is probably my favorite. It has 12 lighted courts and sits in the middle of the lush green of the park. It is at the bottom of a small hill, so it offers hillside spectators the opportunity to watch a game and picnic at the same time. But Forestmeadows has the most bells and whistles, with 19 lighted courts, 13 of which are clay courts, racquetball, squash, weight rooms, and locker rooms with a steam room. Not to mention it has beautiful scenery, with towering pines all around. And if you catch Forestmeadows the right time of year (like now) you might even stumble upon tennis pros playing in the USTA Challenger Tennis Tournament. You do have to reserve and pay for a court, but it’s relatively easy to do so. There is a supervisor stationed at the court to monitor who is playing where.

Address: Tom Brown Park is at Capital Circle and Park. Forestmeadows is off Meridian Road, past Interstate 10.
