Day 113: Sip a taro milk tea at What? Cafe

Many longtime locals still refer to the Northwood Centre shopping complex off North Monroe as “the old Wal-Mart,” even though it has long been used for state offices. Like most retro-fitted buildings it still looks more like a shopping center than a office complex. In the corner of this center is the new What? Cafe, an adorable coffee shop with modern furniture, an emphasis on milk teas and an Asian vibe. Try the taro milk tea, which comes in an unusual purple color but tastes like cake batter. They have eight different kinds of milk teas and the usual assortment of American coffee drinks like cappuccinos. They also sell beers and smoothies. A note to the lactose-sensitive: they have three different kinds of non-dairy milks. This isn’t the kind of place to go for a bite to eat, as they mostly offer snack foods like mini-muffins and quiches. I found the vibe soothing and the night we went it was quiet save for the tapping of fingers on keyboards. What? Cafe also has a mini-stage for live music and is open until 2 a.m. on weekends, though they will close earlier in the summer.

Address: 1940 North Monroe

I am really glad I’ve found this info. Today bloggers publish only about gossips and net and this is really annoying. A good blog with exciting content, that’s what I need. Thank you for keeping this site, I’ll be visiting it. Do you do newsletters? Can’t find it.
