Day 188: Twirl pasta at Mom and Dad’s Italian Restaurant

8 Jul

Easily one of the oldest restaurants in Tallahassee, Mom & Dad’s Italian Restaurant has been on Highway 27 for an astounding 48 years. The restaurant is on the outskirts of Tallahassee’s eastern edge, where the city is fading into farm land. Walking in, it feels as though Mom & Dad’s has changed little in its 48 years, and that’s a good thing. There is wood paneling on the walls, knobby wooden chairs and simple plastic tablecloths. The food is what you would expect – spaghettis, lasagna, manicotti and pizza. The prices were a little on the high side. Their entrees ran from $12 to $16. We ordered a pizza and manicotti and split it between three people, whih cost us around $30. The manicotti was very tasty and just the right portion and thick layer of marinara sauce. The pizza was tasty, but on thin crust so it became goopy and had to be eaten with a fork and knife. Even though this was my first time visiting, I could tell one of the charming things about Mom & Dad’s is that you can count on it to always be there.

This is one of the closest restaurants to where my dad lives and the owner’s son was a student of my grandfather’s, so we went there a lot. The food is good, a little on the salty side, but the owners always treat you like family. Had my first taste of escargot there. Surprisingly good 😀
